My Travel Story

by: Danielle Guevara Start Date: Apr 1, 2018 - End Date: Aug 28, 2018
Thank you for reading about my fundraising to study abroad in Florence, Italy!

Introduction
Since the age of just thirteen, I've always been deeply engrossed in Europe's environment and rhythmic sceneries. Hello! My name's Danielle and I'm twenty-years-old now. For the entirety of my life, I've lived in southern California and have never been graced with the opportunity to attain my childhood dream. Only recently had my college brought to my attention a program that allows students to travel to Florence, Italy for my 2018 - 2019 Fall Semester. Fortunately, I was one of few students chosen to go!

When my professor was first disclosing this program to me, I was a bit disappointed initially, because while I work every other day I'm not at school or studying, I knew it was implausible to come up with the funds with just the income I make now. I was prepared to deny his offer, up until he'd said something that caught my attention:

"As you get older, you gain more responsibility. It won't get any easier to travel if you continue delaying and closing doors to open opportunities."

With that being said, I was more determined and more motivated than I'd ever been to finally pack my bags up and travel to the place I've been dying to see since such a young age. This is why I'm here today, explaining to you my situation and dedication, to be able to fund this trip and study abroad with my fellow classmates.

Educational Goals
This will be an enriching event in my life if I do have the chance to go — something I'll be able to use in order to advance in my career through cultural means. I'm currently attending Riverside City College, pursuing a degree in nursing, as well as computer science, in order to one day become a nurse informaticist. An informatics nurse helps to integrate nursing science with multiple information management and analytical sciences to communicate data and knowledge into nursing practices.

This program, established by My Global City, offers a varying amount of courses, one of which include public health nursing. This specific course focuses on the delivery of medical care to communities and to different populations, and will satisfy one of the requirements I need for my BSN. This international experience will allow me to understand different cultures outside of the United States, thus surpassing my current knowledge concerning the development in healthcare technology. Some regions of the world have better growth in healthcare mechanics than we do in the states, while other regions aren't as lucky. I'd like to explore the different options of the world, and hopefully contribute to the underprivileged with higher quality advancements.

While women comprise 92% of registered nurses, there is a significant lack of women active in STEM-related industries as a whole. My next goal is to motivate and construct a confident and outstanding generation of women in STEM-associated fields through inventive implementing and cultural awareness.

Donations
Unfortunately, I cannot achieve this goal on the mere funds of my personal savings, scholarships, and financial aid. If you so choose to help me out, I would be extremely grateful! Here are a few examples of what your donations will be going towards:
  • Round trip airfare
  • Program fees and courses
  • Lodging
  • Excursions
  • Meals and necessities
  • Local transportation
Anything from a few dollars to some change will help! I thank you in advance for assisting me in this chance to accomplish a very important and enlightening dream of mine!
