My Travel Story

What's up everyone, hope your day is going great and you have a fantastic whatever meal is next in your day after reading this!

My name is Joanna Asher and I have this amazing opportunity to do conservation work overseas! I graduated high school last year and decided to take a year off school to work and figure out what I want to do with my life before potentially going to college. I've been volunteering at my local humane society for 4+ years and volunteered at my local zoo for a couple of months. I know I want to work with animals and I'm really big on conservation.

While I've been figuring out what to do with my life for the past year I stumbled upon this opportunity to go overseas to do conservation work. I honeslty thought it was a joke at first, like there was no way I could really do something like this. Conservation work is exactly the kind of stuff that I really enjoy and that I get so passionate and excited about, so to think that I could actually do this for real, and get to travel overseas while I'm at it, it's literally a dream, like there's no way. So I applied, didn't even think I'd get accepted, but here we are!

The first place I'm going to I'll be working with coral reefs, which are so so important to the preservation of the planet and are one of the highest risk ecosystems right now! And then the second place I'll be going I'll be working with injured sea turtles, rehabilitating them, as well as doing beach clean ups. We're also going to be learning about waste management and helping out on already ongoing waste management projects there!

I've been saving up for months and am covering the upfront cost on my own, but I'm hoping to fundraise the rest for tickets, insurance, dive gear, travel expenses, etc.!

-- The first trip I'll be located in Costa Rica for 4 weeks working on coral restoration.
-- The second trip I'll be located in Indonesia for 4 weeks working with a sea turtle refuge, doing beach clean-ups, and working with waste management.

I'll also be posting updates and pictures online at jay.travels.05, so feel free to check that out if you want! Thank you so much for taking the time to read all about my conservation mission, I really appreciate you! ^-^
