My Travel Story

by: jessica piper Start Date: Nov 2, 2021 - End Date: May 1, 2022
I have been given the opportunity to travel to Paris, France in May of 2022. This trip will allow me to be immersed in the deaf culture of France and enhance my learning in ways online school cannot. This trip is being offered to ASL students to allow them to experience deaf culture in person instead of learning about it online. There will be trips to deaf owned cafes such as Cafe Signes (picture 2) and 1000 & 1 Signes. The Institut de Jeunes sourds de Paris (picture 3) which is the school for the deaf, will also be on the itinerary. There is also time given to explore the city on my own to visit sites such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and the Palace of Versailles. I am so grateful to have this opportunity to experience a culture different than my own which is so important especially during the college years. I have been passionate about learning ASL since I was in 8th grade, and it was the language I chose to learn in high school and for my degree at ASU. France is very important to the history of sign language; the “Father of the Deaf” was born there and opened the first public school for the deaf in Paris. This trip will provide me with unique experience that many aren't able to have. Please consider donating to fund this trip; anything will be a great help. Thank you for your time.
