My Travel Story

by: Heaven Valles Start Date: Apr 27, 2017 - End Date: Sep 13, 2017
I am passionate about children’s medicine and more specifically bridging the health disparities gap for the underprivileged population. Growing up in poverty with a teen mom, alcoholic father, and the toxic family who raised me now drives my passion to help other children like me. This is why I have chosen to become a medical doctor and I plan to volunteer my time as an advocate for poor, unhealthy, and underprivileged. The Polyclinic-Basic medicare volunteer program in Cusco, Peru will allow me to experience firsthand what medicine is like in a developing country. This opportunity will allow me to be completely emerged in their culture and medical practices so I can be a better advocate for them as a practicing physician in the future. I believe everybody deserves love, care, a full belly, and many hugs. This internship will allow me to provide all of these things to the disabled children and the medically underprivileged population in the community. It will be a powerful and humbling experience and I am confident that my passions in medical care for the underprivileged population will grow tremendously. I humbly ask for you to support me in my future plans to make a difference in World and volunteer with the Disabled children’s Orphanage/Clinic and in the Polyclinic-Basic medicare program.
