My Travel Story

by: Desiree And Angel Olguin Start Date: Aug 21, 2023 - End Date: Jan 27, 2024
Hello everyone I'm Desiree along side with my sister Angel and we are here to kindly ask for your help. My sister Angel, my mother and I had a dream of traveling to Hawaii together! Unfortunately now its only mine and my sister's dream to travel to Hawaii. However our dream and reason for this trip has significantly changed. We now dream of going there because my mother was deeply in love with Hawaii. My sis and I now want to go there to honor & celebrate my mother's short life she had on earth with my sister and I, also celebrate all of the good times we had with our mother instead of mourning her. But we need support to make it happen. Let me tell you some of our story.

First I want to start by saying My mother was one of the most hard-working woman I ever knew. She raised me and my sister Angel in Las Vegas, Nevada as a single mother. She worked as a waitress at a casino doing the graveyard shift for many years, as well as other various cashiering jobs. Most of the time she had to work double shifts to make ends meet. However She always tried to come home with a smile on her face, even when she was tired and sore. She barley complained much or asked anybody for anything. She always made sure we had food on the table, clothes on our backs, and went to school with books in our backpacks. She was also very generous with a huge giving heart toward everybody and almost anybody! Her door was open to almost anyone in need of food or anything she can give! She was always helping other people out even tho she needed a lot of help herself. We couldn't even afford a car so we took the bus everywhere in the Las Vegas desert heat. From getting groceries, hauling grocery bags on and off city buses, followed by long hot tiring dreadful walks under the health hazardous, raging, torrid sun.  But she made sure that we were able to go almost anywhere we needed to go. She made sure we went to all of our extracurricular activities or any after school activities we wanted to do no matter what that was. From my basketball practices all the way across town to my gymnastics classes! Even if that meant us going on the city bus!

She taught us how to appreciate the value of education, honesty, and kindness. And never to judge anybody. She taught us how to love everybody and treat people with the same respect and kindness I'm treated including to ourselves. She encouraged us to pursue our dreams and passions, whatever they were, and she was not judgmental. She supported us in everything and anything we we did, whether it was sports, music, dance or whatever it may be. She was our biggest fan and our best friend. She also loved to have fun. She took us to the movies, the park, the zoo, museums and other places, whenever she could afford it. She loved playing board games with us, read stories to us, we also loved looooved to listen to old-school music and jam out with her singing everything from earth wind n fire to Celine Dion with my sis and l. She made us laugh with her jokes & she had funny sense of humor. She was the life of the party and the light of our lives. When I was 15 she decided we move back to New Mexico to be closer to her brothers and sisters. After years of working dead end jobs she got a job at the Sunport Airport through the city of Albuquerque as a parking attendant. She enjoyed meeting new people and seeing new places. She made friends with her co-workers and customers. She was always cheerful, helpful and a great person to be around. She never called in unless she absolutely has to, she loved her job even though it became too demanding for her She was also proud of herself. She had overcome many challenges and hardships in her life, but she never gave up or gave in. She had accomplished many things and touched many hearts. However she was unable to live a full and meaningful life, as it was cut short at the young sge of 57 years old!

Our mom was the most amazing person in the world. She loved us more than anything and always wanted the best for us. She had a passion for traveling and exploring new places, and she especially loved Hawaii. She would always talk about how beautiful it was, and how therapeutic it may be for her to visit there one day, and how much fun we would have there! She would plan out imaginary trips with us, showing us pictures and videos of the islands, the beaches, the volcanoes, and the wildlife. She would make us promises that one day we would go there together, as a family.

But sadly, that day never came. Our mom battled with cancer for five years, fighting bravely and never giving up hope. She went through countless treatments, surgeries, chemotherapy and enduring so much pain and suffering. But she always had a smile on her face, always telling us to be strong and positive for her and for ourselves. She was our hero, our inspiration, our everything.

In 2020, we got the news that we had been praying for! she was in remission! We were overjoyed and relieved, thinking that we finally had a chance to live our dream of going to Hawaii with her. We had been saving up for about two years before that, putting aside every penny we could spare. We started looking Hotels, planning our itinerary and activities, in hopes of going within the next couple of years. We were so excited and happy, thinking that we would finally make our mom's wish come true.

But then, tragedy struck. On leap year and leap day on February 29th 2020, our mom passed away suddenly from cardiac arrest at the young age of 57. We were devastated heartbroken, and shocked, unable to comprehend what had happened. We lost our mom, the only person we had left as immediate family! She was our best friend, our everything.

It was so hard because We had to pay for her funeral expenses and other costs that came along with it. We had to deal with the grief and the loss of our mom. We had to face the reality of living without her. Not to mention on top of losing our mother then COVID-19 happened, followed by inflation, making it impossible to even pay our bills. We definitely had to give up on our dream of going to Hawaii with her.

But we never gave up on her memory. We never gave up on honoring her legacy. We never gave up on celebrating her life.

And that's why we're here today. We want to ask you to help us make our dream come true. We want to go to Hawaii on February 29th 2024, the first anniversary of her passing, due to the fact that day only comes once every 4 years! We want to use this time to celebrate the good times we shared with her instead of mourning her on this day. We want to bond with each other as sisters and make new memories in her honor. We want to fulfill her wish and see the place she loved so much and had planned to take us!

We have never been there before, but we know it will be an amazing experience. We know it will be a healing journey for us. We know it will be a tribute to our mom.

But we can't do it alone. We need your help. We need your generosity. We need your kindness.

Please donate whatever you can to help us reach our goal of $5,000 by February 1st 2024. Every dollar counts and every donation matters. You will not only be helping us fulfill our dream, but also honoring our mom's memory as well.

We know that it is a lot of money to ask for, but we are willing to work hard & also willing to share our story with others and Try our best to raise the funds. Thank you for reading our story and thank you for your support. We appreciate everything from the bottom of our hearts!

We hope you have a wonderful day and may God bless you.

Rest in peace to my beloved Beautiful mother Shirley Olguin Trujillo, we will always miss you and u will never be forgotten!! Until we get dementia or Alzheimer's lol
