Life has a way of testing our strength when we least expect it. After losing my job unexpectedly, I've been balancing caring for my father in South Texas, who's recovering from recent heart surgery, while being separated from my children in Kentucky for the past six months. Every video call ends with "I miss you," and while technology helps bridge the distance, nothing can replace a parent's embrace.
 
This holiday season, I'm hoping to create a moment of pure joy by surprising my children with an in-person visit. The journey from South Texas to Northeast Kentucky is long - nearly 1,200 miles - but the chance to hold my children again would mean everything. While I've always been proud to handle things on my own, recent circumstances have made this dream feel out of reach without a little help.
