My Travel Story

     Hi my name is Kayla and I am currently getting a bachelor's degree at the Universtiy of New Mexico. I will be getting a double major in International Studies (Thematic Concentration: Conflict Peace and Diplomacy; Area Concentration: Russia) and Russian with a minor in Interdisciplinary studies. I currently am a member of the honor's college on my campus (current cumulative gpa: 3.72) and will be graduating with International Distinction due to my dedication to studying other cultures.
     I am planning on studying at the University of Nottingham in England. Why would I pick Nottingham when it's in an English speaking country you ask? Well, to put it simply they have the best program for my studies. I want to become a Russian interpreter when I graduate and Nottingham has a Russian interpreting class. I couldn't have even hoped for a class like that at UNM. So, I quickly fell in love with the classes offered at the university and the campus itself.
I want to spend the semester fine tuning my Russian skills by taking more culture classes and other classes that pertain to my thematic concentration. At UNM, I have exhausted my culture class optionsfor Russian so Nottingham will be the only place I can take new and exciting classes. I'm hoping to take a few classes from this list: Repression and Resistance: Dissidents and Exiles in Russian Culture; Politics of East and Central Europe; History of Yugoslavia and Successor States since 1941; Secret Intelligence and International Security; Russian 3; and Russian Interpreting.
     The fall semester would be a rewarding one with the difficult classes I hope to take. I will be graduating the following semester so this is my opprotunity to prepare myself for my career field.
