My Travel Story

by: george smith Start Date: Aug 31, 2020 - End Date: Jul 21, 2021
Hi, thanks for visiting my page. I am George and I have always found a sense of fulfillment in helping others. I have volunteered locally for my Duke of Edinburgh Award where I helped run a scout group. Had it not been for Covid, I would have spent a week in July mentoring at a speech therapy course, which helped me immensely to overcome my stammer a year ago.

In July of next year, I will be embarking on a trip to Kenya with my school, in order to volunteer at a primary school in Rift Valley. Whilst I am there I will be participating in sports coaching, teaching and construction. This trip will be great for me as it will be culturally enriching and good to help children in need.

My school has made fundraising part of the experience and despite the fact that options have been limited due to Covid, I still intend to push myself in order to raise funds. I have decided to run 1 mile for every £1 donated. This challenge will push me to run 1000 miles in less than a year. This will not be my only source of fundraising as I am planning on organsising some events in the near future so watch this space.

I am really looking forward to the trip and every £1 donated will make it possible for me. I will post regular updates of my running progress. Any sponsorships would mean the world to me.

    Month Four Complete
I kept the mileage on target in month four, going on some longer, more relaxed runs over the christmas season for the sake of enjoying running rather than stressing over it. This did great things for my mileage, however I hope to get back to training with my club and running fast again, as this is my biggest motivator. I went off-road running in the mud with my dad in our new trail shoes often which made a change from my usual running and I found it really enjoyable. My milage for this month was 94.9, a marginal increase on the previous month which boosts my mileage up to 353. Thankyou to Steve and Clare for donating. All donations are greatfully recieved!

    Month Three Complete
The short days made it difficut to run loads during the week, however I squeezed in what I could on school days and ran longer at the weekend. I started to run more with my dad and even managed a tough, 11 mile sunday long run with my uncle one week. I am extremely happy with my mileage for this month, which sits at 94.7. This brings my total mileage to 258.5 and has got me closer to my target at this stage. Thankyou to Keti and Marcello for donating. all donations are gratefully recieved!
