I am an Arizona State University Medicinal Biochemistry major, and my center of interest is health and medical studies. One of my goals for the future is to enhance the ability of public speaking at a professional level and to gain experience in engaging with others in rural communities. This trip will allow me to teach and inform others about public health and actively participate in international community development. Also, it will enhance my leadership skills as well as immerse me in unfamiliar surroundings, language, cultural barriers, and obstacles to overcome.

I am an undergraduate sophomore, and I am participating in this program to grow as an individual who wants to pursue a career in medicine. It is an opportunity to experience vulnerability on an entirely different level as well as embracing my true, authentic self. My major consists of science but lacks the courses to educate me on properly engaging and approaching others in diverse cultural settings. My dream is to be the person that others can build strong connections with on an emotional, physical, and spiritual level.

I am currently working two jobs to support myself and my younger siblings, so searching for education funding resources has always been one of my priorities. Despite certain hardships I have faced in my life thus far, nothing compared to the overwhelming excitement for this study abroad program. I have a gut feeling that this trip will allow me to find peace and prosperity within myself and any future hardships. I have always been the type to conquer any challenge head on and this travel experience, along with the completion of the program, is exhilarating. When returning to the states, it would fill my heart immensely knowing that some of the individuals I have educated in sexual and public health will find the courage to keep themselves safe and protect their loved ones from HIV and AIDS.
