Buenos Aires, Argentina Internship 2016
My Travel Story
When I was little, my answer to the question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” was always, “a teacher.” From a young age, I understood the value of education and the difference that it can make in a person’s life. I am lucky enough to have a mother who understands that as well and has sacrificed her time and money to make sure that I grew up to be someone who utilizes her knowledge to make a change. I am currently pursuing an internship abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina to not only expand my cultural horizons, but also to explore the many opportunities there are for me to make a positive impact.
I believe that life on this planet is a gift that we take for granted and I want to build a platform for myself to be able to communicate the importance of caring for the earth to both children and adults. I am truly passionate about the environment and sustainability which is why I want to take advantage of this opportunity now rather than wait until it is too late.
My ultimate career goal is to work with companies, as a consultant or Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), to modify business plans to fit a more sustainable model. However, in order for me to achieve that goal I have to take the necessary steps to get there. This internship will allow me to gain work experience, build leadership skills, and learn about the numerous ways that a business can run sustainably.
To prepare for this trip, I am working two part time jobs, applying for outside scholarships, and will be putting on a yard sale where I will sell all the clothes that I do not use anymore. Despite all of my efforts to raise money for this internship myself, I am still worried that the costs will hold me back from partaking in the program.
I would like to thank everyone who helps and encourages me in advance. I am eager to share my journey with you as I go through this life changing experience. :)

Alternative Spring Break 2016
For spring break 2016, I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Jackson, Mississippi. In one week I conquered my fears of ladders, heights, and power tools to help paint a house, build a ramp, and construct two storage sheds. I am glad to have been a part of this life- changing experience, where I learned that teamwork, communication, and synergy makes all the difference. Go team Affordable Housing!
