My Travel Story

In July 2023, I will be (aged 14) traveling to a small fishing village in Ghana with my Secondary School to Volunteer at a local School.  The school provides free education to disadvantaged children in the local community.

I will be helping with building work at the school turning an outbuilding into a new classroom and will be contributing to long-term sustainable development. In most of Africa, education is a luxury rather than an obligation. I struggle with education myself as I am dyslexic and have Dyspraxia however, I love going to school, learning new things, and gaining new experiences and I want other children to also gain an education. Volunteering in Ghana will be a big challenge, however, it will increase my confidence, it will give me new skills in Team Work, and let me experience a new culture.

With my parent’s help, I am aiming to fundraise most of the money for the trip and I am organising various fundraising events myself over the school holidays and at weekends.  I am also contacting local neighbours to wash cars and mow lawns etc to enable me to reach my target.

Thank you for your contribution - Ethan
