My Travel Story

by: Mica Catley Start Date: Oct 10, 2024 - End Date: Nov 25, 2024
On the 21st of November 2024, I will be flying back to Cape Town, South Africa. I will be volunteering via International Volunteering HQ as part of the Childcare Project.

In February of this year, I volunteered in an Educare Centre within a township called Capricorn. The area is very underdeveloped, and the local schools rely on donations from organisations and volunteers as they do not receive government funding. All the children that attend the Educare live in Capricorn and are exposed to drug & alcohol abuse as well as gang violence, whilst living in extreme levels of poverty. My previous experience volunteering here has given me a greater understanding of the support the children require and a much clearer insight into what the school needs most. I am hopeful that returning to Capricorn and utilising the knowledge I have gained from my previous trip will allow me to continue to assist in making a difference in the lives of the children I have worked with as well as their families.

Donations would assist in raising funds for fundamental products that will enhance the quality of life of the local community and the children at the school. Using the money raised, I would be able to help to pay for clean water,  school stationary supplies, learning materials such as books, posters and audio equipment, sports equipment and activities, personal hygiene products, crockery and cutlery, school uniforms, nappies, wipes, and basic furnishings such as rugs, carpets and curtains to protect the children and staff from the extreme weather conditions.

It would be greatly appreciated if you would be willing to make a donation of any size in order to support me in this endeavour. Only a small donation would make such a great difference in the lives of such an underprivileged community, and what might feel like a small gesture to you or I could mean the difference between having clean water and a hot meal, or going without for another day.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my plans, and I appreciate any support that anybody is willing to offer.
