My Travel Story

Hi,
I'm Susana Patricia, though my family calls me Patxi.
By title, I'm a Tech Consultant. By heart, a storyteller, and by choice, an adventurer.

In December, I’ll be heading to East Africa to volunteer on a Women’s Education Project.
I will be working closely with centres that support women from difficult backgrounds, think gender inequality, domestic violence, homelessness, and HIV/AIDS. These centres are lifelines, offering counselling, skills training, education, and childcare.
I’ll be teaching English (with my best portuguese accent “I’m totally qualified for this” energy), basic business (yes, chicken-breeding is a business model and I’m here for it), and health & well-being (because it all starts with knowledge). I’ll also be distributing pads and visiting women in their homes to offer counselling and basic medical support.

It will be hands-on, heart-first, and occasionally mosquito-heavy.

This trip has been on my bucket list since before I knew what a bucket list was. Long before I knew what DE&I stood for. It’s one of those childhood dreams that sat quietly in the corner while I chased careers and deadlines and tried to figure out how to be a grown-up. Alongside other dreams, this dream has been waiting patiently. And now, it’s finally getting its moment, the others will come later.

As a woman in tech, a DE&I and well-being champion, and someone who believes fiercely in the power of people helping people, I know that education and confidence are the roots of real, lasting change.

Why East Africa? Because Africa is in my blood and these are places where support isn’t just appreciated, it’s transformative. Where a little goes a long way. And where I can roll up my sleeves and actually do something. Not just talk about it. Not just post about it. But be about it.

So, if you’ve ever thought, “I wish I could help,” here’s your chance. Your donation will go directly toward

  • Learning materials and stationery
  • Sanitary pads
  • Resources for women’s start-up businesses
  • Food and basic medical items for home visits

Plus, you’ll get good karma. And maybe a chicken named after you. :)

Every contribution will bring us one step closer to a world where women are healthy, independent, and financially empowered. Let’s make a lasting impact. Together.
