My Travel Story

by: Ciara Nolan Start Date: Nov 15, 2023 - End Date: May 14, 2024
May 2015, I was blessed with my amazing, bubbly baby brother Kian at 15 after being an only child my whole life. He had the roughest start to life I ever got to witness. We were told Kian had no chance of surviving the pregnancy to term, yet at 27 weeks he broke the water weighing in at 1.5 lbs. Truly a miracle!!! Unfortunately Kian had to live his first 324 longggg days of life at the hospital and fighting through many many surgeries for his heart, stomach, scrotum, and laser eye surgery all before the age of 1. We had to spend Christmas at the Ronald McDonald House and learned after his heart surgery the staff had overdosed him on morphine. It still brings tears to my eyes thinking about it, especially as I type this. After he was finally free to come home to us his first year at home was spent on an oxygen tank due to his under developed lungs as well as a feeding tube that he still relies to this day at the age of 8. Although there is much much more to the story I think I should get to my point here. My brother and I didn't grow up in a very cushy lifestyle. We've never traveled before and he's spent most of his life visiting doctors. I want to take him travelling and show him how wonderful the world is outside of Alberta, Canada. Life can change in an instant especially with his heart disease. I want to get us both out of here for a bit and make the best memories we can and bond even more! I say that because I don't live at home with him, I moved out on my own a while ago and I work lots so it would mean so much to us to get some time to relax and enjoy ourselves and our sister and brother bond. He is such a light in my life. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read. Bless you all!
