My Travel Story

I am writing to request financial assistance for a deeply personal and important journey. My family of four has been presented with a rare opportunity to reconnect with our roots, our heritage, and most importantly, our beloved grandparents in Japan. This trip is not merely a vacation but a bridge to the past and a gateway to the future for our children.
     Our last visit to Japan was abruptly cut short right before the global COVID-19 shutdowns. The pandemic not only separated nations but also distanced families. For us, it has been years since we’ve embraced our grandparents, heard their stories, or shared a meal. Our children, who are growing up in a culture far removed from their Japanese side of the family. They have missed the invaluable experience of bonding with their great-grandparents, learning from them, and understanding the rich tapestry of our family history. Japan is where they can experience the traditions, language, and customs that are integral to understanding who is apart of our mixed family. The chance to spend time with their great-grandparents, to see the world through their eyes, and to create memories together is irreplaceable. These experiences will shape their perspectives, instill a sense of belonging, and foster an appreciation for their ancestry.
       This trip also represents a unique educational opportunity for our children. Immersing themselves in a different culture, learning a new language, and experiencing day-to-day life in Japan will provide them with a broader worldview and enhance their cognitive flexibility. It is an investment in their future, equipping them with the tools to navigate an increasingly globalized world.
     The pandemic has been challenging for everyone, but it has been particularly hard on families like ours, who have relatives across the globe. The travel restrictions and health concerns have kept us apart for far too long. Now, we yearn to make up for lost time and to ensure that our children know their great-grandparents while they still can.
       Unfortunately, the economic impact of the pandemic has also taken its toll on our finances. Like many families, we’ve faced uncertainties and setbacks that have made traveling to Japan a hardship, specifically where flight costs are concerned.
