My Travel Story

by: Ashley McKinley Start Date: Oct 5, 2016 - End Date: Jul 4, 2017
This is a volunteer trip through Go Eco. The trip will involve me going to ZImbabwe to work in a wildlife orphanage the is on the outskirts of Bulawayo. The orphanage is Chipangali and is a safe haven for any animal that needs help. Chipangali is not a zoo but instead tries to rehabilitate animals to go back into the wild. While there I will get to take care of the animals, help with education of the surrounding public, help with baby orphaned animals, and many others things.. I think going here will help me grow and see a side of medicine that is not human. I will be able to help animals that have no way to help themselves. It will also be a great opportunity to meet other people who like to volunteer and possibly make new friends along the way. As my friend, Jessica Fehd, and I were researching volunteer trips, this one stood out to us the most. We will be able to work directly with the animals and be able to learn a lot about animal care. We both know that it will also help us when it comes to going to pharmacy school or any medical program in the future.
