My Travel Story

As an Orphaned and Vulnerable Children volunteer, I will spend my mornings assisting at an Emergency Care Home for Abandoned and Orphaned Children aged 0-14, which provides a safe place for youth in the immediate hours after school. Many of these children have serious medical issues (60% have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS). Therefore, when the children need medical attention, I will also be supporting the health care assistant with appointments at the local clinic or hospital. I will provide much needed support for the caregiver and engage the children while they wait for their appointment, integrating activities that support the recommendations of the doctor through speech therapy, behavior therapy or simple physiotherapy.

This two-week trip is extremely rewarding, however it does come at a cost; I will have to pay for my airfare, vaccinations/medical care, and a project fee. Up until March, I will be doing everything I can to fundraise for my trip and I welcome you to assist me in my journey.
