My Travel Story

Hello, my name is Lucero Diaz. I'm an educational psychologist. I'm currently studying a masters degree in math and language learning in the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, Mexico.

During this year I've been studying about language development, specifically I'm interested in studying how the brain process non literal language (in this study we are using the irony) so I'm going to se the brain's electric activity while my participants read literal vs non literal stories.

This is important because it is the first research of this kind that includes spanish speakers. Also, non literal language understanding has been taken as a sign of intelligence, it appears in different contexts as conversations, school books, etc.  I think it is important to study what happens in the brain while this kind of language appears with normo typical participants and hopefully  this results can help for a next study where we can see what happens with kids that have trouble processing non literal language as in autism.

In order to make an instrument that is valid and reliable  for my study and also to understand better all the things involved in irony understanding, I found a research group called "Griale" in th University of Alicante. They have been studying irony for a long time and I've  been accepted to make a short research stay with them. I'm going to work in their projects for one and a half month and also they are going to help me with my research.

I'm looking forward to make this research stay but unfortunately the money my scholarship gives me is not enough and I don't have all the money I need to pay for all my expenses. That's how I got here and I'm asking for your help so I can raise as much money I can to make his trip and work in my investigation.

Thank you!
