My Travel Story

by: Helen Candy Start Date: Jan 15, 2019 - End Date: Jul 14, 2019
Charles Darwin School in Biggin Hill, Kent has created a partnership with a primary school, Kijito Upele, in Zanzibar.
Charles Darwin School sixth form students have the opportunity to fundraise and volunteer at the school each year, supporting the school with its endeavours to provide a better education to its students and services to its local community.  Our students develop confidence and life skills as they take on the challenge of teaching science, English and maths to classes of 100 Swahili-speaking students, teaching sports and P.E. to groups of 200+ on a small green site at the back of the school or renovating classrooms to bring pride back to a school of ~6000 students.

In 2019 we are fundraising to support the building of a secure perimeter fence to help to keep the school and its resources safe from outsiders and thieves.  Funds will also support the purchase of teaching resources to help meet the needs identified in our 2018 trip.
Charles Darwin students are hosting a number of events to support their fundraising, including a sponsored event to walk, run, row, swim and cycle the 7000 miles to Zanzibar over the next 6 months.

We do hope you can support us in our efforts
