Bailey's African Safari vet program trip
My Travel Story
In May of 2017, I will be venturing out of ND and going to South Africa for a once in a life time opportunity. I am a first year vet student at North Dakota State University, who has a huge love for animals which is why it is my dream to become a vet. I applied and got accepted to go on a 2 week trip to South Africa to get hands on learning and experince with wild and demostic animals.
During these two weeks I will be working hands on with animals, along with classroom time learning about different procedures. I will be handling wild elephants, rhinos, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffalo, hyenas, and many other species. I will have participated in helicopter capture, net capture, and capture from an open safari vehicle. While capturing and releasing these animals, they will be vaccinated and treated for injuries before being released back into the wild. I will also be performing clinical exams and treating internal and external parasites, tick-borne diseases, minor wounds, and infections on demosticated animals.
This program allows vet students use their skills hands that will learn during class time to use on hurt and sick animals in South Africa. I belive this trip will also help me decide which type of animals I would want to study and work on after I graduate from vet school. I will be recieving credits from NDSU to go towards my transcripts from particpating on this trip. All donations will be going to help pay for me get to South Africa, from the tuition to attend, the flight and stay. Any amount is much appreacted even if it's only $5. It'll all add up in the long run. Thank you so much for taking time out to read about my trip and for donating.
Have a great day!
