My Travel Story

    When I was young I read the book "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and I wanted to travel to the Province of Calabria in Italy to see the place where Professor Lidenbrock and his friends were blasted back to the surface, out of Mount Etna. Now as I am turning 65, I am more interested in seeing some of the art and experiencing the seaside of this beautiful country called Italy. 
      I have been through some health issues over the last 30 years and I was not really in a position to travel long distances due to blood clots in my leg as well as some other health problems, with every year's passing there is less chance that I will be able to endure such a long flight. I am at a point right now where I am getting around pretty well and I can do this if I take it in my own time and not on a tour. I don't believe that I could keep up with a group of people on a tour schedule and enjoy my travels. I am renting a studio apartment for a month or two in a city next to the sea if possible, from there I can take a train and see Mount Etna, Rome, or anything I want to for myself at my own pace.
      This is my gift to myself now that all of the kids are grown and on their own, a time for a little peace and reflection. This is not just something that I want, this is something that I need.
