My Travel Story

by: Hannah Clarke Start Date: Oct 22, 2021 - End Date: Dec 30, 2021
As a Pre-Medicine student at Baylor University, I have a strong desire to serve others. I have been blessed with the opportunity to not only expand my knowledge in the health field, but to do it outside of the classroom impacting communities in India. I chose to volunteer in India becasue it is one of the fastest growing countries and the doctor to patient ratio is around 1:1,400.
I am hoping that this experience will be a well-rounded one for personal growth and academic/professional growth. I hope to not just go as a pre-med student, but also as a service oriented person who wants to learn things outside of health. Outside of my academics and career path, I am hoping to gain unique cultural experiences, make meaningful connections with other volunteers and the people we are helping, be inspired in more ways than one, gain perspective on the importance of global health as well as the blessings I have with my own health, and of course have fun! Professionally, I hope to gain knowledge that textbooks and lectures can’t teach. Hands on experience in real time that require quick thinking, problem solving, and patient communication. I also hope that this experience helps me hone in on what I’m passionate about in the health field.

    Educating Myself!
Hey! Before I go to India I wanted to educate myself on their culture and the cultural differences between the states and India. I am super excited to read this book that my roommate recommended about a family from India that lives in the US. This novel follows the experiences of a devout Shia Muslim Indian family in Northern California, post-9/11. I hope to get an deeper understanding of the differences they observed and struggles they encountered before and after arriving in US!
