My Travel Story

The music program at Central Washington University, where I attend, is the best in the Northwest United States, and as such provides amazing opportunities for its students. The most recent opportunity presented to me is a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, referred to as “Walking in the Footsteps of Mozart.” My university will take twelve to fifteen students on a trip to Europe, spending a week in Vienna followed by another week in Prague. The group will see one of Mozart’s most famous operas in the very hall in which he himself premiered it, they will stand in Beethoven’s apartment, and attend concerts put on by the Vienna Philharmonic, the most famous orchestra in the world. Most importantly though, this opportunity is a credit class, where we will be taught by professors and world class experts from the universities in the countries we visit. Music is a very risky passion to pursue, and the connections made available to me in the two music capitals of the world would be invaluable in establishing myself in the international music community. While this trip is in and of itself a life-changing opportunity, what makes it truly unique is the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth. As Beethoven lived and worked in Vienna for most of his life, there will be a festival—while our school is in the city—unlike any that has been seen in my lifetime nor will ever be seen again.  Despite the life-changing nature of this trip, I will simply not be able to attend without your help. I am a low-income music student strugging to pay tuition here, and I need your help to take advantage of this life-changing opportunity.
