My Travel Story

Hi! I'm Alice from Brooklyn, New York! I am finishing up my senior year at Brooklyn Technical High School and plan on attending Harvard University. I also plan on taking a gap year for the 2020-2021 academic year, and participating in Aardvark Israel's year-long program in Israel, where I will be taking classes, learning Hebrew, and participating in professional internships. I am really excited to be able to explore the beautiful country of Israel as well as gain real-work experience, particularly in the startup/technology world, before starting university. However, my family is under an enormous amount of financial burden, and cannot afford to send me to Israel for a gap year before beginning my studies at Harvard. 

I plan to use my experience in Israel to really learn about where I come from and immerse myself in a brand new culture and country. In addition, I hope to learn about myself and get clarity in what career I would like to pursue in the future. In high school, I studied abroad in Ferrara, Italy through a scholarship provided by CIEE. Upon my return, I co-founded a club at my school to give back by helping other students apply to similar programs with scholarships. Since then, I conduct weekly meetings to help students with applications and fundraising, pair interested students with student mentors who have studied abroad, and host CIEE representatives. If I were to go on Aardvark's gap year program in Israel, I am sure that I would find ways to encourage students younger than me to also travel to Israel and consider a gap year before university.
