My Travel Story

by: Amber Olson-Smith Start Date: Sep 10, 2021 - End Date: Jun 9, 2022
The WR International Exchange program advocates students from underserved communities with their cultural exchange and education goals in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area.

In the 2018-2019 school year, we hosted high school students from Germany, and later that summer, our students in the program visited their country, as well as Iceland, Switzerland, and Austria.

Our students are almost all on free and reduced lunch status and would not otherwise have the opportunity for this educational experience.

During the summer of 2021, we plan to fund up to 40 students in their exchange without partner schools in Germany, France, and Spain.

Our students work extra jobs for most of thier funds. We are asking for help from our sponsors to help with additional travel costs and additional expenses this year due to the rising cost of travel during COVID.

WR International Exchange Goals (2021-2022)
  • To educate students to other languages and cultures through a cultural exchange program
  • To change individual perspectives about cultural differences and stereotypes by building relationships with individuals from other regions and cultures
  • To build students’ self-confidence and self-advocacy skills through fundraising & travelling
  • To learn social skills vital for the workplace in a global society, including: hospitality, healthy communication, and conflict resolution
  • To develop planning, organization, and time-management skills vital for the workplace in a global society
