My Travel Story

by: Chelsea Johnson Start Date: Apr 17, 2014 - End Date: Jul 25, 2014
If anyone asked me what I planned to do after graduating college, I exclaimed, "I'm going back to Latin America!" Well, the time has come and it is now that awkward, unknown period of time after graduation. So, I'm going back to Latin America. How am I going to do that, you ask? I am going to move to Nicaragua and teach English as a foreign language!

If you know me, you probably know I was dreading not being in school. I've always loved learning, going to school, and even doing homework (many of my peers think this is crazy). Teaching English is a perfect way for me to fulfill my commitment to myself, because it means that I get to stay in the classroom providing education to others. Meaningful travel means living within and being immersed in a culture for an extended period of time. I don't want to travel for two weeks, I want to have a meaningful experience where I can be surrounded by Spanish speakers and locals. I chose Nicaragua because this is a place where I can have the genuine experience I am looking for while living simply, without the luxuries I am accustomed to having in my life.

By supporting me in my endeavors, you are helping me follow my dreams as I take a period of doing what I really want to do, while continuing to develop my career in international education.
