My Travel Story

by: Kimberlee Mackey Start Date: Oct 19, 2016 - End Date: Apr 18, 2017
This will impact my career because I plan to actually become a music teacher. I will learn hands-on how another culture experiences life. I will be able to make a difference in the community because I understand that in this culture, they really want to learn. They do not take advantage of their education, but a lot of people in the United States do. I will be able to share about my experiences with the people in Fiji, and explain how education is important to those children. I am passionate about this because they would like interns going into either education or music fields. I am going into both. I get so happy just thinking that I might have a chance to learn how their culture is, and to teach them mine. I want to be able to help those kids become more confident while speaking English, and to help them feel comfort in the joy of learning music! I choose this destination because I have always wanted to visit Fiji, and there is no internet connection on the island. If there is no internet, it will be easier to interact with everyone there. They are not used to everyone looking down at their devices all day, so they can also help me with my social skills! This project would mean the world to me because I am ready to explore the world and all its cultures. I want to understand how and why each culture does certain actions in a particular way. I want to get that first hand experience to have a sneak peek into their culture.
