About Me
Hello, my name is Monica Hamel and I am raising money to study abroad in Montréal, Canada for the Fall of 2018. I will be attending the L'universitié du Québec à Montréal in their French program. I am a French Major at my home university so this study abroad trip will really help me achieve so much in my major that I can't get in my home campus (the culture and environment).

Le Français
The French language has been such a big part of my life since I was in high school and I will never regret my choice to take it further for my life's career. I can't wait to experience a new culture and area, this will be my first trip outside of the United States too!
The program at UQAM that I will taking is the perfecting of the French Language as a second language, and I will also be taking a class or two to help with my second major at my home university, Media Studies Communication.
I look forward to studying abroad and gaining new insight into cultures that are not my own, meeting new people, and creating life-long memories that will stick with me for the rest of my life.

National Student Exchange
I am studying abroad with the program National Student Exchange (NSE) which helps sends students abroad all over the US and some areas of Canada. I have been working closely with my home organizer as well as the organizer in Montréal, and with each email sent it brings me just one step closer to going.

While Abroad
I will be blogging and vlogging my trip and the things that I learn while I am in Canada. This is per the agreement of one of my scholarships and my Media Studies major. I will post these blog posts on my blog: Fiction, Food, and French and the vlogs on my YouTube: Monica Laurette. If you would like to watch me after donating, you can find me here!

I am a full-time student at the moment, with no steady income to save up myself, so I don't have the money to pay for this trip completely out of pocket, even with the slight help from my university and scholarships. I need your help!

  • Scholarships Granted!

    I was pleasantly surprised multiple times in just the past two days by getting accepted to receive two different scholarships, winning third place in a french video contest, and learning that my research partner and I have won a small award for our paper on Wonder Woman and women in cinema. All of these will help me get one step closer to where I need to be!

  • Application Sent!

    Application Sent!
    My application to the Certificat de perfectionnement de français langue seconde at UQÀM was sent in the mail! (I have covered both mine and the university's addresses for privacy reasons). I am so nervous to hear back if I am accepted into this specific program, and what my score from my placement test is! I should be getting the results sometime this week.
