Studying Sport Facilities and Programs in the UK and Germany
My Travel Story
My travel will allow me to advance in my education, professionally, and personally. For my degree at NC State, this will allow me to take two classes that I am very interested in. First, during my time in England, I will be taking a sport programming class. When working in sport in the future, I will have to be able to create and work on programs for people of many different groups. By studying this in England, I will be able to see how programming differs by the area I am in in comparison to that in the United States. Second, during my time in Germany, I will be taking a sport facilities class. I will see many of the different sport facilities built throughout Germany, and I will see how the facilities are run as efficiently as they are and learn how to transfer what I learned to use at facilities I work at in the future. In both countries, I will learn through multiple cultural exposures as well, both by spending time in the cities and seeing different places such as Dachau, one of the original concentration camps from World War II. Through all of these experiences I hope to have in the United Kingdom and Germany, I will gain knowledge for my education, experience for my career, and both experience and knowledge personally for my knowledge of other cultures and locations through spending time there.
The program I am going on is for my major, Sport Management, at NC State, and it is headed by two of our professors, Dr. Mike Endwards, who covers the English portion, and Dr. Kyle Bunds, who covers the German portion. The program is a great opportunity for advancement academically, professionally, and personally, and it will allow me to experience two countries with great athletic histories, primarily in soccer/football, but also in other sports including rugby. The trip would allow me to see different famous sport arenas and facilities, including Wembley Stadium and the Munich Olympic Grounds. Going on this trip would mean so much to me, and I will be very grateful for this experience.
