My Travel Story

by: Izabela Lecka Start Date: Jan 23, 2021 - End Date: May 22, 2021
It's clear that the past few months have been cruel for most of us. I experienced an extraordinary experiment of feeling like a rat in a closed cage, from morning to night, alternately listening to the scares on the TV and hammering the walls, as if they had arranged a renovation concert.

Talking a walk to breathe? Neighbors get in the way, because why don't I do with my own face what they expect?

Well sorry but I'm too sensitive for that.

And the constant search for a job - me, with no experience, only those studies abroad and lab practice. Knowledge of 3 languages also seems to be insufficient in the present times.

Now: In search of freedom.

By allowing myself to flee the country - as the airport customs worker put it - I plan to survive the period of a political regime in a country whose second name is freedom.

Beautiful Brazil, rich in nature, good food, samba, arbitrary, variety, too much sun and most importantly, open borders during the so-called pandemic.

It is a land where I can feel that my life still matters and that it is worth getting out of bed in the morning. Daily exploration, production of audiovisual material from trips and escapades and sharing it with loved ones. I am discovering many areas for the first time, I am fascinated by waterfalls, rainbow breaks, strange animals and so many fruits that I have never seen before! I walk, admire and breathe.

I spent all my savings on the trip, but the choice was obvious for me. I will always choose freedom and vitality over survival and stability. While suspended and waiting for my dream job, I am currently continuing my journey combining volunteering (workaway), hitchiking and couchsurfing. For last 4 months I am helping at the organic farms of local vegetables and free living animals as well as with the village children left without supervision after schools are closed during pandemic times. I've traveled all the south, and soon I'm headed to the Amazon. I do not intend to return to Europe.

To everyone who understands - thanks a lot for your support! I am gratefull for this opportunity. Take care,

Iza
