As part of Texas State's Nursing program, students are given an opportunity to travel abroad and provide care to less fortunate populations in Nicaragua.  This is an experience of a lifetime and something that I have always wanted to do. I enjoying learning about and partaking in new cultures. I hope to apply my skills to families that are truly in need of nursing care. I feel that working in a foreign country with a vulnerable group will not only broaden my skills but help me in my future career as a public health nurse.  Working in the communities surrounding Managua, Nicaragua will expose me to disease processes and ailments I may not normally come in contact with in the United States. This will not only help to increase my knowledge base in medicine but also expand my cultural awareness. I know culture can play a big part in how people view medicine and treatments, whether they follow through on the advice given to them or brush it off.  My wish is to be fully submerged in a rural clinic in a foreign country observing, learning, talking to and treating people in great need of care.  This wonderful experience does cost money though so on behalf of myself and my classmates, I humbly ask that you consider donating to our trip and help further our knowledge and experience.  If I am able to raise more money than I need, then any extra will be donated to my classmates that are in need of financial assistance. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your consideration.
