My Travel Story

by: Eleanor Shorten Start Date: Jun 14, 2020 - End Date: May 9, 2021
My name is Eleanor, and I will be volunteering in Cairns, Australia, to support the protection of the Great Barrier Reef, while also helping endangered species in the Oceanic region.

As the world's largest reef system, the Great Barrier Reef is home to a huge amount of species, many of which - including the reef itself, which is very much alive - are currently endangered. Human activity has threatened this reef for hundreds of years, and studies have found that climate change has caused an 89% decrease in new coral in the reef.

There is no denying that the Great Barrier reef is in great danger. And a significant part of it is our collective fault as humanity.

Using proactive and reactive means, I will endeavour to conserve the environment and in particular help to increase the local turtle populations of these regions.

Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated. If you wish to contact me through social media to ensure that this is legitimate, my Instagram handle is @_elexnor._
