My Travel Story

by: Tia Molloy Start Date: Nov 15, 2024 - End Date: Mar 14, 2025

Hi there! I am raising funds to support my internship with Global Reef in Koh Tao, Thailand, where I will be working on marine conservation and coral reef restoration. This program offers a unique opportunity to protect vital marine ecosystems while contributing to solutions for one of the world's most urgent environmental challenges. Your support will help me cover travel, accommodation, and essential program costs, allowing me to fully immerse myself in this impactful work.

As a master's student in International Affairs and Global Enterprise, this internship aligns perfectly with my goal of contributing to sustainable development worldwide. By gaining hands-on experience in marine conservation, I will deepen my understanding of ecosystem preservation and the role it plays in global environmental health. These experiences will equip me with the knowledge and skills to drive impactful environmental initiatives in my future career.

Through this internship, I will work directly on restoring coral reefs, which are critical to marine biodiversity and the livelihoods of coastal communities. By helping to rebuild these ecosystems, I will support both the environment and the local economy, which relies on healthy reefs for fishing and tourism. Beyond the internship, I plan to share my knowledge to inspire and advocate for global conservation efforts.

I have always been drawn to the beauty and importance of the ocean. Marine ecosystems like coral reefs are not only breathtaking but also vital to the planet's health, serving as a home to countless species and natural protectors of coastlines. The opportunity to contribute to their restoration is meaningful to me as I believe preserving these habitats is essential for future generations.

Koh Tao is renowned for its vibrant coral reefs, but it also faces significant environmental challenges because of climate change and human impact. This makes it an ideal location for the impactful conservation work the Global Reef is doing. Through this program, I will gain firsthand experience addressing these challenges while working in one of the most biodiverse and beautiful marine environments in the world.

This internship combines my passion for conservation with my desire to make a tangible difference. I aspire to achieve a career in international development and believe this internship is my first step toward doing so. Protecting marine ecosystems is not just about preserving their beauty, it's about safeguarding the planet's future, as well as our own. This program is a step in my journey to becoming an advocate for sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
