My Travel Story

by: Tania Sequeda Start Date: May 22, 2024 - End Date: Sep 21, 2024
I used to be a world traveller and humanitarian. I volunteered in Greece helping out with the migrant crisis there and then returned to my home country of Puerto Rico to complete my law degree. I graduated in 2020. While I studied to take the bar in Puerto Rico I volunteered for a local NGO and helped with the local population in any way that I could. The pandemic and certain other life circumstances have made it very hard to find financial stability. To add to the equation my husband and I recently became parents to a beautiful surprise baby whom we are crazy about. I had to leave my job as soon as I gave birth due to complications with my birth and expenses in the area we lived in. We moved closer to be near my family during those difficult days. I am currently a stay-at-home mom and I work very hard to take care of my family while my husband works even harder to sustain us. Despite that, my husband and I continue to struggle to make ends meet. I recently started to study for the bar exam again as it is my dream to pass it so that I can start to work as a human rights attorney helping others, which is the whole reason why I studied law in the first place. I know once I get my license our economic situation will change drastically as well.  Despite my desire to take the bar exam, I cannot currently afford the cost of travelling to the jurisdiction where I will sit for the exam. At the moment travel costs, lodging food and childcare are at around $4,000.00 for the 4 days I have to be in NY to take the test. I would be grateful to have the funds to go so that I can help change my family's economic situation, especially for my baby.
