My Travel Story

by: Riley Ramirez Start Date: Mar 19, 2021 - End Date: Dec 18, 2021
“We must take adventures in order to know where we belong” -Marla Rae. Not knowing where I belong is something that I have struggled with my whole life. Being submerged in different countries and cultures is truly fascinating, and I wish to expand my knowledge of other countries vastly. To be able to explore various other countries and cultures is something I have always dreamt of, and when I found out about Semester at Sea, I knew I had to embark on that journey.

My expectation for Semester at Sea is to expand my mindset and my understanding of people and places all throughout the world. Overall, Semester at Sea can jumpstart my future. I have a passion to travel, and want to possibly pursue it as a career. I hope to gain global perspective, global Perspective can be defined as when someone has the ability to think of a situation and how it relates to the whole world. That is something I struggle with, because I am stuck in the mindset of how things affect me and where I come from- not how things affect others all around the world. In addition, the voyage will greatly expand my global understanding, by submerging me in different countries, cultures, personalities, and experiences. In conclusion, there is so much to gain from Semester at Sea and I look forward to embarking on that journey.

On top of travel, while on the ship we will be taking 15 credit hours of college credit that go towards your degree. You go to class every day and do the things college students do. You must take field classes for each class you are enrolled in to connect your onboard education with the countries you are traveling in. Since this is for college credit, the school takes your education very serious, and it is a rather rigirous learning environment.

In order to make my dream of embarking on the Semester at Sea Spring 2022 Voyage I have to raise around 35 Thousand Dollars. In order not to burden my parents with this financial investment I have decided to fund this voyage myself. While I have applied for every possible scholarship, I am concerned that will not cover the voyage. This is a once in a lifetime experience that I am so passionate about attending. I understand this is an out of the ordinary investment, but anything helps. There will never be a way to repay your donation, but believe me when I say I will be eternally grateful. As well as, I have attached my Amazon wish list for this journey. I thank you in advance, and if you are unable to donate I would appreciate if you can share my fundraising link. Again, anything helps. Thanks and Gig ‘Em!
