Sri Lanka mental health placement
My Travel Story
Our goal when we are out there is to support the local community by helping out in psychiatric hospitals, teaching English to the youths in Sri Lanka and helping those with specific needs. SLV as a mental health charity will develop my understanding of mental health as its based on workshops and mental health-focused talks which will positively impact my education and career prospects.
The Sri Lankan community has fewer opportunities for support with mental health and that's why I, and other SLV volunteers, are keen to change this and offer a helping hand. A typical week will consist of teaching children English, being placed in a psychiatric unit and clinical setting to help those further along in their recovery. To help individuals with specific needs we arrange fun and creative activities/workshops to get everyone involved and have a good time! Not only will I be helping individuals in Sri Lanka but this trip will benefit me. I'll learn valuable lessons to improve my understanding of mental health which I can then apply to the westernised culture. In doing so, my ability to understand and work with others in challenging personal situations will improve and will boost my chances of a career in the psychological field.
To achieve all this, I am asking for donations which will be greatly appreciated regardless of how much - 1p is better than nothing! Thank you in advance and im sure the Sri Lankan community will be grateful aswell.
