My Travel Story

In Jane Cooper's book, The Lost Flock she talks of a co-op community centered around Shetland Island's natural resources: Seafood, Sheep, and Solitude. Shetland, located in the northern islands of Scotland, hosts a variety of sheep unique to the islands. The fibers are perfect for yarn as they are one of the few sheep that do not require sheering, the wool can simply be plucked off. I wish to travel to Shetland to help in the wool harvest, to learn the process from sheep to shop.

About me: I am what one would say, "an odd duck". My fascination resides within wool and words. A writer by profession and a knitter by passion, I have the privilege of learning culture through craft. There's so much subtly in knitting, from the yarn to the color to the sitchwork to even the type of garment itself. Shetland is filled with odd ducks, passionate ducks. I'd like to join the flock per say.
