My Travel Story

by: Kaylee Marquez Start Date: Feb 24, 2016 - End Date: Aug 1, 2016
Hello! My name is Kaylee Marquez, and I am fundraising to be able to attend the Fall 2016 Semester at Sea Program! I am a current sophomore at UCCS and throughout my two years there I have managed to maintain a 3.9 GPA while studying Criminal Justice and American Sign Language. I am super excited to have an opportunity like this cross my path. I hope that this program will help me in my future career decision of working either domestically or working in a foreign country. I am especially looking forward to learning about and experience firsthand many new cultures, which is something that I haven’t done.

I am passionate about this experience because it is the ultimate travel experience, and to be able to continue my studies at the same time only adds to the attraction. I chose Semester at Sea because it will visit many amazing destinations while still offering a university education. I will also be able to travel with the same group of people over the semester, which allows for the opportunity to make lifelong friends from around the world.

I debated for a long time about whether or not I wanted to fundraise this way, but facts are, without assistance it is highly likely that I will not be able to go. I am working two jobs within my community and saving almost all of my paychecks as well as applying for multiple scholarships. I am also willing to work extremely hard for and possible sponsorship anyone may be willing to offer. Unfortunately, I will not know until shortly before the departure date if I have recieved any of the multiple scholarships I have applied for.

Anyone who donates and wishes to disclose their identity I will bring back something from my travels. In the event that I do not attend my study abroad semester all disclosed identities will receive a 95% refund as FundMyTravel retains 5% of all donations to keep their site working. In the event that you wish to donate anonymously all funds will go to either The National Mill Dog Rescue or Be The Match.

Thank you so much for taking your time to read my post! :)
