I chose Tanzania because it represents everything I hope to become as a future Physician Assistant—someone who can provide excellent care regardless of circumstances. The medical need there is urgent and real, with children lacking access to basic healthcare that we take for granted. But what excites me most is the opportunity to learn while serving.

This isn't just about gaining clinical experience, though I'll be working 25+ hours weekly shadowing physicians, taking patient histories, recording vitals, and assisting with procedures—hands-on experience most pre-PA students never get. It's about developing the global health perspective and cultural competency that will make me a better healthcare provider for every patient I treat, whether in rural Louisiana or urban Texas.

I'm passionate about this because I believe healthcare should be a human right, not a privilege. In Tanzania, I'll witness healthcare professionals performing miracles with limited resources, and I'll gain insights into resourceful medicine that will make me more creative and compassionate. The thought of a child receiving care because of my presence there, or a family learning life-saving health practices, fills me with purpose.

The impact goes both ways. I'll be providing direct medical care to children with limited healthcare access, teaching families about disease prevention, supporting orphaned children, and adding capacity to overwhelmed hospitals. But I'll also return as a future PA with skills to serve underserved populations here at home, creating a cycle of global health impact.

This experience will become part of my identity as a healthcare provider. The clinical skills, cultural competency, and global perspective I develop will benefit every patient I treat for the rest of my career. That's what makes this so meaningful—it's not just about me, it's about every life I'll touch throughout my career.

Your support makes all of this possible. You're not just funding a trip—you're investing in a future healthcare provider who will carry these lessons forward for decades to come.
