My Travel Story

by: Lucy Newnham Start Date: May 20, 2016 - End Date: May 19, 2017
SLV run student and graduate placements abroad to help people who suffer from mental health issues. This gives me an incredile opportunity to study psychology in a compltely different culture than my own whilst gaining hands on experience in a field I hope to progress in after University. I will be volunteering in Sri Lanka for 5 weeks in July and August 2017, and am very excited to play a part in helping people less fortunate than myself, (plus I get to go to Sri Lanka to do it!)

Whilst living with a local family with other volunteers I will be taking part in projects for people who suffer from mental illnesses. This includes running activities and providing creative therapies for patients in a range of institutions. In addition to this I will also be working at projects for children, teaching English and working with people of all ages who have special needs. I will also attend workshops to help advance my own skills and knowledge of psychology.

Your donation will help towards this cause! This placement is an incredible opportunity for myself and will provide me with a life changing experience that will help me later in life and gives me a chance to put my skills and knowledge into practice. In addition to this I get the chance to see how mental health treatments work in a totally different culture.

This is a cause that I am truly passionate about so please please pleeeeaaase donate! Your donations will make a difference in helping people in Sri Lanka who are less fortunate than ourselves!

Thanks!!! :)
