Kikati, dear family, friends and unknown benefactors!

I am immensely happy to share with you the news that on 3rd July, I shall embark on a life-changing adventure in Uganda, where, as a 'mzungu' (foreign volunteer or simply said englishman :) ), I will be teaching around 25 children, age 6-14, from extremely impoverished, disadvantaged backgrounds in an under-resourced local school for the period of 2 months. With an 8-hour working day I will aspire to become the most influential and inspiring teacher the children will ever meet.  

For those of you who know me well, this comes as no surprise, but as a mere inevitability of my existence. I must acknowledge the fact that Dimitri Paraskeva played a prominent part in my decision by becoming the first international volunteer I know and thus sparking the inspiration and eagerness to follow in his footsteps 6 years later! For that I am forever grateful to you, dearest friend!

What my foreign friends may not know about me is that I have been running a civic volunteer initiative called "Operation Teddy Bear" for the past 8 years with the main purpose of providing personal Christmas presents for unfortunate children in Bulgaria. Last year (2015) my fabulous team of 120 and I, along with nearly 20 000 benefactors made it possible to visit more than 7000 orphans, children at risk and children with disabilities in 330 institutions in all 28 regions of Bulgaria, not only making all personal wishes come true but also delivering much needed food, clothes, supplies, appliances, equipment and school materials to the institutions they currently reside.  

In recent years I have become immersed in the work of child education and well-being and as this gives me joy beyond expression I believe I have found my true vocation. At present, I am working with an amazing team of aspiring women to charter an NGO that aims to connect the souls of trained volunteers with those of orphans around Bulgaria in the endeavor to create a better world for them. 

Thus, my decision to volunteer for the benefit of the younger generation is far from arbitrary!

To me, my volunteer work in Uganda will be both a humbling and an enriching experience. During my two-month stay my objectives will be to impart useful and valuable knowledge and skills in the field of  English, Math, Sports, Science, History, Music and Social Studies, to demonstrate that a single act of kindness goes a long way, to inspire bravery, boldness, perseverance, persistence, patience and imagination in the youngsters’ hearts and minds, to serve and aid the community and to learn how to thrive in the face of adversity. 

However, to achieve all this I will need a little help from my friends! So, I invite you to become а part of one of the most important events in my life!

I have already collected 2/3 of the money I will need for the whole trip (including: plane ticket fair (already bought), registration fee (paid), vaccination expenses, monthly allowance, in-country travel exp., emergency money, travel insurance exp., medical (icld. malaria tablets and equipment expenses) but I am yet to pay the volunteer program fee and my visa, which amount to a total of 1148 US dollars: 

*945$ - program fee
*48$ - 5% bank transfer fee
*100$ - visa fee 
*55$ - 5% fee charged by the fundraising platform I am using; 

The organization that I am volunteering through, IVHQ, invests 100 % of the volunteer program fee in the local community, providing salaries for locals and empowering charity projects in Uganda. It includes airport pickups, local staff salaries, accommodation, meals, project donations and in-country administration fees. This fee is due on 3rd June, which gives me 3 months to collect it.

During my stay in Uganda, I will keep you informed about all activities and my progress with the children, through facebook and the IVHQ website, where I will be keeping a daily volunteer dairy! 

Any and all donation will be highly appreciated and will help me make a meaningful impact and provide care and education to those who need it most. Any donations exceeding my target will go towards buying school supplies and materials for my pupils in Uganda. As a donor reward I will include all donors' names in a specially painted mural located somewhere in Uganda and provide pictures.

Education is not only meant for those raised in affluent circumstances! Help me be the change WE want to see in the world. You cannot help everyone, but everyone can help someone and I believe this is my inexorable purpose in life: 

HELPING OTHERS RISE ABOVE CIRCUMSTANCES AND FIND A WAY TO CHANGE THEIR IMMEDIATE SURROUNDING!

Безкрайно щастлива съм да споделя с вас, че на 3 Юли, се спускам в приключението на моя живот – доброволческа работа в Уганда! Там, като „mzungu” или чуждестранен доброволец (също означава англичанин :) ), ще преподавам Английски, Математика, История, Изкуство и Музика на 25 деца (от 6 до 14 годишна възраст), живеещи в крайна бедност и лишения.

За тези от вас, които ме познавате, това не е изненада, а просто неизбежно събитие от моя житейски път. Искам да изразя дълбоката си благодарност на човека, който преди 6 години ме вдъхнови да започна да планирам това пътешествие, Dimitri Paraskeva! Признателна съм ти, че чрез личния си пример ти събуди в мен вдъхновение и готовност днес да се изправя и да покоря този връх!

В последните няколко години от моя живот аз съм изцяло погълната от работата с деца, тяхното образование и благосъстояние и тъй като, това ми дава неописуема радост, аз вярвам, че това е моето призвание. Тази година, аз и екип от 5 амбициозни дами, започнахме работа по създаването на не-правителствена организация за работа и менторство на деца от институции в България. Вече сме стартирали и подбора на доброволци за този проект.

А моето доброволчество в Уганда аз разглеждам като смиряващо и обогатяващо. По време на моя дву-месечен престой, основи ми цели ще са:

- да предам полезни знания и ценни умения в сферите, в които ще преподавам,
- да демонстрирам, че добротата се възнаграждава,
- да вдъхновя и породя смелост, стремеж, самоувереност, постоянство, упоритост, търпение и        въображение в сърцата и умовете на моите ученици,
- да служа и помагам на обществото и да се науча как да успявам изправена пред най-големите трудности.

За да постигна всичко това, разбира се, ще имам нужда от малко помощ от всички вас! Затова искам да ви поканя да станете част от едно от най-важните събития в моя живот!

Вече съм събрала 2/3 от сумата необходима за тази мисия. Тя включва: самолетни билети (купени), регистрационна такса (платена), пари за ваксини, месечни разходи, транспорт в Уганда, средства за спешни случай, пътническа застраховка, лекарства и оборудване. Остава ми да събера 1148 долара за програмна вноска и за виза.

*100$ - Виза
*55$ - 5% такса от набраните средства, за използване на платформата fundmytravels.com

Организацията IVHQ, чрез която ще имам възможността да доброволствам, инвестира 100 % от програмната такса в местната общност, като благодарение на нея се създават работни места и се осигуряват заплати на част от местното население, борещо се с нарастващата бедност.

Програмната такса включва: посрещане и транспортиране от летището до дома на доброволците, заплатите на местния екип, легло и храна, дарения и инвестиции в проекта ми и други. Тази такса трябва да бъде внесена на 3 Юни, което означава, че имам 3 месеца да я събера.

По време на моя престои в Уганда, ще ви информирам за всички събития и прогреса, който постигам с учениците ми чрез facebook и сайтът на IVHQ, където ще водя всекидневен доброволчески дневник. Имената на всички дарители ще бъдат изписани върху стенопис, които аз ще нарисувам някъде в Уганда! Разбира се, всеки дарител ще получи снимка с името си върху този стенопис. 

От сега искам да благодаря на всички вас, които ще ми помогнате да подаря знание, умения, емоции и усмивки на тези, които се нуждаят от тях! Всяка стотинка надхвърляща посочената сума ще бъде използвана за закупуване на училищни материали за моите ученици в Уганда! 

Нека бъдем промяната, която искаме да видим в света. Един човек не може да помогне на всички, но всеки може да помогне на някого и аз вярвам, че затова съм ТУК – да помагам на другите да се преборят с обстоятелствата и да намерят начин да променят средата и битието си! Благодаря ви!

  • The First Two Names On The Wall Of Fame In Uganda :D

    As promised I will write all the benefactors' names on top of a mural that I will personally paint somewhere in Uganda ( I hope I do not have a hard time getting a wall :D ) ! So the first two names actually belong to two people that I have not had the pleasure of knowing, but they were both kind enough to donate to my cause! Thank you to Jose Rodriguez and Nikolay Chalakov for the faith you have in me, despite the fact we have never met in real life! And, of course, a big thank you to the anonymous donor who was generous beyond imagination and left 100$! I promise to make you all proud and put my time in Uganda into good use!
