I have a deep interest in art history and would like to explore Vietnam while exploring how Vietnamese people are maintaining traditional forms of artistic expression. There are a lot of colonial architectural elements within the country namely a lot of the religious buildings alongside the more traditional buildings and styles which I think shows an interesting juxtaposition between tradition and colonial art. I think it would also be interesting to discuss how people relate to these images seen every day, they are common tourist attraction sites due to the age of the monuments but how does it make locals feel when people flock to their country to view these structures? I enjoy handicrafts and as they are often seen as a lower form of art they are often not seen as important, in some cases they are no longer handmade but mass-produced eliminating the practice and cultural significance of the art form.
