My Travel Story

Hey everyone,

For those of you who don't know me my name is Gabrielle Ledoyen Lambert, I am a young entrepreneur from small town in Southern Manitoba Canada. I graduated from high school at 16 and quickly jumped into entrepreneurship. I hold a strong passion for Reefs, Travel, Art and Design!

I'm in love with media because I think of it as another way to deliver messages and capture important, scenic, or memorable moments. Interior Design allows people to create an environment they want to live in. Surroundings and appearances are more than colours and objects, they create an atmosphere and deliver feelings. Artists convey emotion, they make their audience feel what they're seeing.

"I am a Photographer and Designer that wants give back through my passions for the two. Not to mention Reefs. " - Gabrielle L. L.

I am a reef aquarium hobbyist for the past 2 years (subscribe to see the upcoming photo's of my tank) and I will have to say this all started when I got my first "exotic" fish a Purple Tang. I had my arm deep down in my tank one day as I moved things around and this fish was swimming circles around my arm and rubbing me. At the time I was terrified and disgusted until I began to watch its behaviour. It would soon notice me walk by and swim circles in the nearest corner. I grew a relationship and starting "petting" regularly. As time passed I became more intrigued with the marine ecosystem.

I planned a trip to Indonesia. This trip is now becoming more of a reality as the time flies right by me. In less than is less than 9 months, I will be on the other side of this world. Although, there’s still something missing. Something that will allow me to experience both Travel and Reefs. The Raja Amapat, I will be staying in one of the most beautiful facilities that organize a camp to teach you marine awareness. This will create an amazing opportunity to document the journey, the water’s activities, the local culture. This now leads to equipment and additional organizing that I have to pay for in order to make this trip a success and to simply prepare for the trip of my dreams.

I never really saw myself as one to set up one of these accounts, but I ended up having to swallow my pride and do it because as well all know, it is difficult to start a business from nothing. I decided I would use this advancing technology to my advantage. I'm a media designer and write about my experiences. This brings the idea of the cause to the outside world in living colour. I want to make those who are not aware, more conscious. To be able to give the public a look at the cause and show the actual faces and smiles of the everyday lives around this planet.

The money, as well as my volunteering efforts, will be used towards equipment and to help protect and restore reefs, conduct biodiversity studies, help educate those who are “Out of sight” and school children, work to promote sustainable, eco-friendly travelling and tourism by:

- Creating artificial reefs

- Building awareness

- Monitoring marine habitats

- Creating a Documentary

- Creating Articles

- Campaigning to change policy

Did I mention that I don’t only purchase “any” equipment? I am a strong contributor to small local businesses, Etsy, Kickstarter, and Indiegogo.

I would be grateful for any donation made towards my project. Since the matter of ocean, protection is not only a current one but an ongoing subject I will keep the donation site open as long as I can. I plan to establish connections and maybe return one day. But at the very least, if nothing comes of this, I will be fortunate and happy to have had the opportunity to do this while the reef is in good health. Thanks, everyone!

Help me,

Help you,

Help us...

Here's the start of something new

I will be hosting a Gala at White Tail Meadow upon my return, showcasing my work from this trip.

Indonesia, a Southeast Asian nation made up of thousands of volcanic islands, is home to hundreds of ethnic groups speaking many different languages. It’s known for beaches, volcanoes, Komodo dragons and jungles sheltering elephants, orangutans and tigers. On the island of Java lies Indonesia's vibrant, sprawling capital, Jakarta, and the city of Yogyakarta, known for gamelan music and traditional puppetry.

Indonesia is the heart of the Coral Triangle, the area with the highest biodiversity of marine species. In this area alone over 500 reef building coral species can be found. For comparison, this is about 7 times as many as in the entire Caribbean.

When people think of biodiversity they don't think about the coral reefs underwater. They mostly think about the amazon, and the forest, when yet there’s more living species in the Raja Ampat, the most important Coral reef on our planet, than everywhere else in the world.

The Raja Ampat Islands are an Indonesian archipelago o the northwest tip of Bird’s Head Peninsula in West Papua. Comprising hundreds of jungle-covered islands, Raja Ampat is known for its beaches and coral reefs rich with marine life. Ancient rock paintings and caves are on Misool Island, while the crimson bird of paradise lives on Waigeo Island. Batanta and Salawati are the archipelago’s other main islands.

“In the Raja Ampat Lies a one of a kind Divers Resort, Papua Explorers. They are an accommodation and service facility that believe divers and snorkelers are amongst the lucky ones. Truthfully we get to experience first hand the extraordinary beauty of the underwater world. It is also my belief that as reef enthusiasts, we have a duty of care to do what we can to conserve the areas in which Marine Ecosystems are thriving, and we must be ambassadors for healthy marine ecosystems over the world. To do my part and spread the awareness about minimising our impact on these ecosystems, I must participate in some eco-friendly practices. These Activities are once to last a lifetime. These small practices contribute to a much greater outcome: the health and longevity of not only Indonesian marine ecosystems, but the wider reef systems within the world. I hope that through these efforts, I can help to ensure I satisfy myself with the amount of contribution I will be putting towards this awareness. Help me, help you, help us. ”

“Most people tend to forget about the Coral Reefs Simply due to the simple phrase ”Out of sight, out of mind”. That’s not the case for me... I became a Reef Aquarium hobbyist 3 years ago and had quickly grown a passion for this amazing self sustainable ecosystem. But, it’s dying... If we don’t change now, we can destroy the world’s most stable and beautiful living creatures. Not only are they living but they provide us life. Please make the change, control your garbage.”

The Coral Triangle is a geographical term so named as it refers to a roughly triangular area of the tropical marine waters of Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste that contain at least 500 species of reef-building corals in each ecoregion. The Coral Triangle is recognised as the global centre of marine biodiversity and a global priority for conservation. It is also called the "Amazon of the seas" and covers 5.7 million square kilometres (2,200,000 sq mi) of ocean waters. It's biological resources sustain the lives of over 120 million people. According to the Coral Triangle Knowledge Network, about $3 billion in fisheries exports and another $3 billion in coastal tourism revenues derive as annual foreign exchange income in the region.
