Volunteering in South Africa
My Travel Story
I'm gearing up for an exciting volunteer opportunity in South Africa with GoEco!
To start, I will be volunteering in Cape Town Community Project (2 weeks). In local schools, I'll be involved in educational initiatives, helping create a positive learning environment, organizing events for the kids, all while teaching them English and life skills. I will also be supporting local health clinics, participating in health awareness campaigns, and assisting with basic medical tasks. Social development is also on the agenda, focusing on women's empowerment and sustainable agriculture.
Next Stop: Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (2 weeks) in Hoedspruit, South Africa. I'll be immersed in a unique and hands-on experience, working closely with a variety of injured and orphaned animals, including primates, big cats, and birds. My role involves contributing to their rehabilitation journey, assisting with tasks like feeding, cleaning enclosures, and providing enriching activities. The ultimate goal is to facilitate their recovery and eventual release back into their natural habitats.
Why this journey?
For those of you who know me, I've always loved traveling and immersing myself in diverse cultures. However, I wanted to do more than just visit a new place this time. With my previous experience in tutoring kids Spanish and my overall love for all animals, I knew I wanted to make an impact in any way that I could. Of course, I couldn't just pick one of these opportunities to help out the community, so I've chosen to do both. The truth is, being immersed in a new culture is about forming genuine connections, understanding the community's way of life, and engaging in a reciprocal cultural exchange. I believe while I contribute to community projects, from healthcare to social development and animal care, I will be able to make a lasting impact in a country like South Africa.
