My Travel Story

by: fiona p Start Date: Feb 22, 2017 - End Date: Sep 9, 2017
Hello,
My name is Anujah and I am a Canadian living in London for the year completing my MSc in Clinical Psychology. This september after the completion of my degree I will be volunteering in Sri Lanka for 12 weeks through a graduate mental health placement organized by SLV. GLOBAL.

The organization I am with aims to focus on global mental health by providing volunteers the chance to gain desired psychology work experience in various communities that need extra support. All funds raised will be going to funding the running of the programme. This programme is completely voluntary and I will receive no compensation during the placement. During the course of 12 weeks I will be taking part in mental health projects, youth teaching projects, children's teaching projects, special needs projects, field trips & psychology focused workshops. Volunteers like myself work five days a week living like a local, using local transport, and staying with a Sri Lankan family.

Why Sri Lanka?
My choice to serve in Sri Lanka originates from both my parents being born and raised in Sri Lanka. However, being born and raised in Canada I have never travelled to Sri Lanka to retrace my roots. This trip is an opportunity to serve my community, soul search, and understand who I am and where I come from.

I am extremely excited and would love your help and contribution! Thank you very much in advance for your generosity! If you want to know more about the work SLV do, go to https://slv.global/ .
