SLV Global Bali Mental Health Placement Fund Raising
My Travel Story
Use of Fund
The funding is mainly use for my placement programme fees. The fees includes accommodation and placement cost (excluding flight fees, insurance, living cost and visa). The placement fees go towards training, medical resources and other incidental costs. Any extra funding will be partly donated to Mental Health Foundation UK - a mental health charity, and partly to MIND HK - a Non government Mental Health Service.
Why is it worth to fund?
Mental Health issues is getting serious over the world, especially in Asian countries. In developing countries like Bali and Sri Lanka, they need a group of voluntary psychology students for help. Not only to heal theirs symptoms by doing therapies, but also to let them understand that psychotic issues isn't just bout medication, it is far more complicated. By funding my placement, it will also benefit the society in HK and the UK, I will bring my knowledges and experiences to further volunteering in HK/UK, such as working in YMCA, or other NGOs, my goals will be mentioned later.
The SLV global is a trust worthy charity organisation, it is founded by a group of psychology graduates since 2010, they aim to give the most resources to people who suffer from mental illness, and raise the awareness of mental health. Their placement prioritise the quality of work and learning, rather than holiday experiences. In addition, they join students from different countries with the same aspiration - use their psychological skills to help the mental health community.
Programme rundown
It is a four weeks international volunteering placement in Bali. They have different projects and therapies in the program. The projects include activity support, teaching English in local schools, helping with children development, such as leading extracurricular lessons with primary schools students; support special education activities, such as working with students in special needs (autism, brain injury, etc.), and working with local community or leisure centre, to interact with the elderlies or people in need. On top on the projects, there are several workshops such as meditation workshop, hypnotherapy workshop and occupational training. For more information, feel free to visit http://slv.global/placment-abroad/bali-clinical-psychology (or google SLV global Bali placement).
My goal for the placement
My ultimate goal is to build a better self-management and self awareness, to understanding more about my course (psychology), and most importantly, I hope I could apply my skills into further mental health work and volunteering, helping more people in special needs, and to raise the awareness of mental health issues. After the four weeks programme, I will share my experiences to others in social medias, apply different mental health jobs in the UK and HK in the future. I hope I could contribute in the mental health sector and benefit my hometown - HK as well as my second home - UK. Details of my goals during and after the placment are listed in the cover photo! :)
