Hello Everyone!

I am Renee Glanville and I am Deaf. Since I was born in Washington DC. For my whole life, drawing has been my passion. Being Deaf in a hearing world can sometimes be lonely, but drawing has always been my lifeline. At a very young age, I realised that I was able to draw well and therefore art become my creative outlet. Growing up I was heavily influenced to spend countless hours drawing comics and Japanese cartoons similar to Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Digmon, and many others. My love and ambition for art inspired me to pursue a career in Illustration.

I currently have the great opportunity to complete my Master's degree in animation at University for Creative Arts Farnham which is in the United Kingdom (UK). This is an excellent art school for school students who are interested in attending. UCA offers a variety of majors related to graphic design, illustration, animation, and fine art. Through the network, they have provided artistic job opportunities to current and recently graduated students at UCA. The MA animation program is a great way to learn new skills and improve existing ones. After I was accepted into the Masters of Arts animation program. The goal of attending UCA is to obtain the Master of Arts animation program and become a researcher in animation.

There are several differences between the UK and American university systems, the cost of living, disability services, and the terms of enrollment. The process for international deaf students who wish to attend a UK university is very sadly complicated. The University for Creative Arts Farnham provides no scholarships specialized for disabled students and only offers limited scholarships to international students.

I mostly rely on sign language interpreters for sessions, one-on-one professors/staff meetings, tutors, and classmates for communication. Sign language and simultaneous communication is my form of communication with the hearing and deaf communities. Even though there are not many American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters in the UK, British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters are used frequently for the British English-speaking communities, and I am currently at beginner level of BSL level to improve my chances of obtaining an interpreter in the UK. BSL is the standard sign language in the UK so that’s why I am learning it. The universities in the UK and companies can provide translation services for international students and employees. Deaf international students have to pay the costs of hiring interpreters. Unfortunately, the fee itself is usually expensive.

So, the total cost of the tuition and accommodation for the University for Creative Arts Farnham is $37,733 USD. As well, the cost of hiring interpreters is $112,647 USD a year. To meet my goals, I need to raise $155,000 USD to pay tuition and housing fees indulging sign language interpreters which is due a day before September 30th 2022. Ideally, I would be able to pay off that amount of money in a short time. To cover all expenses, including the expense, and fees for a qualified ASL interpreter before the beginning of the academic year begins, I desperately need your support to achieve my goals for taking that next step in my career and life.
