My Travel Story

Hi! My name is Laura, and the wonderful person in the picture with me is my dear friend, Eydi.

I met Eydi at work in the Dominican Republic back in 2019, and since then she has become one of the most important people in my life. In 2021, she got married to the love of her life and moved to the United States. Even with the distance, we’ve kept our friendship alive through calls, messages, and surprise gifts.

This year, after many attempts, I finally received my U.S. visa and the very first thought I had was: I have to go see Eydi.

Eydi is more than a friend; she’s a source of light in my life. She’s the one who taught me how to laugh at myself, appreciate the small moments, and choose joy even in difficult times. Thanks to her influence, I learned to treat myself more kindly and to see the world with through a more colorful lense.

This November, the stars have aligned for me and my husband to take a week off work to go visit her. We’re covering as much of the trip as we can through savings, side work, and selling things we no longer use. However, with flights being $722, and adding transport, food, and accommodation, we’re still about $1000 short of making this reunion happen.
