Hi all! Carson here. I am starting ths fundraiser as I begin my process of moving to South Korea to teach English in a public school. I am applying through a program called EPIK (English Teaching Program in Korea) with hopes to teach on a small island south of the mainland called Jeju. I began a process of certifing myself as a credtied English teacher back in October through an institute known as the International TEFL Academy in Chicago. Uncertain of what I wanted to do immediately following graduation, I knew two things were certain. One, that I wanted to find myself abroad, delving deeper into this planet earth that we call home. Secondly, through such an experience, I know I want to be in service to others, bringing light and new (or not so new) perspective to people's lives.

Through my own personal love for learning language and realizing the great impact my own langauge teachers have had on me, coming across the position to teach my own langauge abraod, acting as a cultural and language ambassador, I discovered, is exactly what I want to do at this point of my life.

With this being said, I was uncertain as to where in the world I would want to teach. Researching a plethora of opportunities, I came across this program in South Korea. Providing a quality salary and benefits, this will allow me to enter into this job field, while also having the ability to pay back student loans and even save some money! Through this journey, I plan to advance myself in the professional realm, grow my cultural awareness, and further discover the niche and place in this world where I will truly be best fit to serve.

Currently, I am finishing my final semester at the University of Iowa. Working a part-time job, I live minimally and save as much as I possibly can, however this is not a terrible amount of money. Generally, I find it uncomfortable to ask for money, however I see the need for start-up costs coming soon. Genuinely, ANY amount no matter how big or small would be deeply appreciated for even nodding your support towards my endeavors. Through your help and embrace, reaching this goal of mine can be achieved. To share langauge and culture while experiencing myself, a totally new way of living and working being in a foreign country is the next step I plan to take. If all settles well, I will begin a 12 month contract teaching in August of 2021.

Peace to the planet,
Carson
