My Travel Story

by: Caitlin Bayliss Start Date: Feb 22, 2023 - End Date: Feb 21, 2024
Hello, my name is Caitlin, and for as long as I can remember I've wanted to be a wildlife vet in Africa, helping to look after endangered animals and helping to conserve these wonderful animals for future generations to admire and enjoy.

I'm about to start studying for my A-Levels ahead of applying to Cambridge University to study veterinary medicine. But, in order to have a good chance of being accepted, I need to have shown both clinical and non-clinical veterinary experience in an area that I want to study that also reflects my preferred vocation.

Several local vet centers have promised help with experience, but visiting South Africa and experiencing wildlife veterinary firsthand, I believe will truly give me the advantage that I need to study at Cambridge, bringing me closer to my lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian assisting endangered animals in Africa.

I've started the process of visiting South Africa in August 2024 through a company called, African Conservation Experience, looking at volunteering for two weeks at Shimongwe in the Kruger National Park, and your donation will make this experience a reality. Thank you.

During my time at the Provet Wildlife Animal Hospital volunteering with Dr Peter Rogers, I'll have the opportunity to work directly with the Big Five animals of Africa: the African Elephant, Cape buffalo, black rhinoceros, African lion, and African leopard. People like Dr Rogers are working tirelessly to care for and treat these stunning, and yet still endangered animals.
